If It Doesn’t Challenge You, It Doesn’t Change You
Posted on August 8th, 2017
I’m just wrapping up my midday study break.
I am lucky because I have the opportunity during the day to have lunch at home, from the comfort of my couch.
Recently I’ve fallen into a habit of watching famous TED talks by people whom I respect or aspire to whilst eating lunch. (technically it’s my breakfast because I fast in the morning. If you’re interested, that’s a juicy topic I’ll be discussing on September 1st, at my Fast-Track Health Workshop) …
Back to study break.
I consider TED.com study because one of the areas I’m improving in my life is public speaking.
And TED talks are a great place to start.
As Oprah Winfrey once said, “TED is where all the brilliant minds get together and talk about brilliant things” … (or something along those lines).
Anyway, I’ve grown to enjoy my daily dose of TED.com.
And I’m confident it’s going to help me transform into a brilliant public speaker one day.
Why torture yourself with public speaking you ask?
Like the next person, it scares me.
But I also agree with Carmine Gallo (author of books like The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs and Talk Like Ted) when he said, “there’s no use having a great idea or product if you can’t communicate it well to your audience.”
And I am 100% certain that our program (the tribus systems – movement, nutrition and motivation) is more than great.
But I’ll be honest. Public speaking still scares the crap out of me.
It’s way outside my comfort zone.
So even tho I’m a TED geek, don’t assume I’m a brilliant public speaker. Especially if you’re one of the 50 lucky people coming to hear me speak at my upcoming Fast-Track Health Workshop.
I’m getting better, but it’s still a work in progress!
Still, if you give me your time I promise to deliver a great night.
I will be sharing three very powerful stories. Along the way, I will teach you about the three secrets that have absolutely changed my life for the better …
Plus, we’ve got some cool demos planned that will illustrate the dangers of training in gyms for most people if you don’t understand one key fact. On top of all this we’re showing a really inspiring new short film afterwards.
As always, it will be an insightful and entertaining event.
Today during my midday TED session I watched presentations from both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. I wrapped it up with Steve Jobs famous 2005 Stanford University commencement speech.
It’s not particularly a TED talk.
But I must have watch it 12 times now. And every time I learn something new …
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.”
“Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice.”
“And most important …”
“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition … they somehow, already know what you truly want to become!”
Get’s me every time.
I’ll admit, I’m a huge Steve Jobs fan!
Huge Apple fan too.
I’m a sucker for their whole ethos of challenging the status quo and I’m happy to pay extra to support it. Even tho Steve is no longer around!
Little fun fact for you.
Just over a year ago I was in Las Vegas attending a business conference. I walked into a sporting memorabilia store. Can you guess what the most expensive signature was?
A simple white page business contract signed by Steve valued at $250,000 (USD).
It was literally a framed white piece of paper.
I love that!
Don’t get me wrong. I love sport too … but to see that the most sought after signature in Vegas was from an entrepreneur who took life by the balls, and challenged the status quo made me smile inside.
